Hi Guys!
I want to talk to a friend who has GoogleTalk. What would be the best way to go about this? Should I get a Jabber client, and if so, which one? If I should just go with Google Talk itself, how can I get one of those GMail codes? I don't have an accessible cell phone, so can't do it that way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh, I use Window-Eyes and have a PC, obviously, with Windows XP.
Cheers,
Caitlin
I don't know how helpfull this is, seeing as I've yet to try it, but I thought I saw somethin' in the add contact thing on gizmo that let's you add and talk to people who have google talk?
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong?
If that is in fact possable, then if you use gizmo you should be good to go.
Hopefully I've not added to any confusion?
Caitlin, if my memory doesn't abuse me, i believe you use window eyes, right?
This may be quite difficult for you then to use google talk. It is possible with jaws but it quite a nightmare.
The very best thing to do in my opinion would be to advise our friend to consider using skype which is the easiest thing. As the previouspost mentioned, there is gismo, but i never used it so i will not express any opinion.
Google talk, however, has the inconvenience of allowing you to people who have the same programme. I recommend skype very strongly and/or, the new msn as the voice chat system there has dramatically improved.
Cheers
John
I do have Gizmo, and could try using that. Skype is good, John, but its text chat is very annoying, and that's really what communication I most want to have with my friend here. My friend is actually my sister, and she's sighted, and not into all this voice chat stuff, haha. I'll try the Gizmo thing and see if that works, but in the meantime, any other suggestions? If not, I'll try to get GoogleTalk. If it works with jaws, it'll work with Window-Eyes, defniitely. it'll jsut be a pain either way, probably.
yes, google talk absolutely sucks. If there's an accessible piece of software that allows you to use the google talk protocol, use that.
What about Jabber? I've wanted to try that for awhile. Do any of you know if there are some nice clients that work with Jaws/Window-Eyes/whatever?
omgs make her use aims!
Okay well now I went on a different screen name and she can read my IMs. WTF?
On another note, I tried Miranda and some program called GAIM from sourceforge.net and hated them both. The only thing I still have yet to try is googletalk itself and I can't do that untl I get one of the gmail.com codes. Argh.
But at least it's working, but you know, working with one creen name and not another is kind of weird. Or even if it's just a night to night thing. Things that work and don't work illogically disturb me, lol.
TIA,
Caitlin
Hey Caitlin!!! I've tryed Miranda before, too. (just to see if I could get AIM to work on it) no such luck, though. I don't know what to tell ya as far as Google Talk goes. I've never even heard of it, actually. lol. But if it's not excessible, then why bother. Maybe you could get a webcame? (I don't know what help this would do for you) since it's basically visual, but just a suggestion.

Why not just use msn or yahoo.
It's jsut that my sis uses GoogleTalk. But it's ok, randomly her GoogleTalk started working with my AIM.
